VR-58 was established at NAS Jacksonville Florida on 1 November 1977. Formal ceremonies were held in April 1978 with the delivery of their first C-9B aircraft, making them “mission ready” to support fleet operations anywhere around the world! VR-58 is a highly versatile squadron that previously flew four McDonnell Douglas C-9B “Skytrain II” aircraft, named after the dependable and durable R4D transport of World War II. Now they fly the new C-40 Clipper, a derivative of the B-737. The crew members fly these planes around the world providing seven days per week logistics support for Navy forces everywhere they’re needed!
