Oberon Class Submarine Model

The Oberon class was a series of 27 submarines designed and built by British shipyards between 1957 and 1978. These submarines were operated by five different nations and were based on the previous Porpoise class, with improved hull construction and updated equipment. Four shipyards, including Cammell Laird, Chatham Dockyard, Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, and Vickers-Armstrongs, built the Oberon class submarines. The Royal Navy, the Royal Australian Navy, the Brazilian Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy/Canadian Forces Maritime Command, and the Chilean Navy all operated this class.

During the Cold War, the  class was primarily used for surveillance, tracking other ships and submarines, delivering and retrieving special forces personnel, and serving as targets for anti-submarine training. These submarines remained in service until 2000, and as of 2015, several have been preserved as museum vessels, with others being sold for scrap or awaiting conversion for display. The submarine played a significant role in naval operations during the Cold War and beyond.
