The TA-4 Skyhawk is a version of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, a single-engine, jet-powered attack aircraft developed for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps in the 1950s. The TA-4 was a two-seat trainer version of the A-4, with a longer fuselage to accommodate the second seat. The Navy and Marine Corps used it for advanced training of pilots who had completed primary flight training, and for training of weapons systems officers. The TA-4 was powered by a single Pratt & Whitney J52-P-6A turbojet engine and had a maximum speed of approximately 600 mph. It was armed with various weapons, including bombs, missiles, and a 20mm cannon. The TA-4 was retired from active service in the mid-1970s, but some examples remain used as trainers or in other roles. There were several versions of the TA-4, including the TA-4F, TA-4J, and TA-4S.
