Fairey Gannet AEW.3 Model

The Fairey Gannet AEW.3 was a anti-submarine aircraft that was designed to serve as an airborne early warning (AEW) platform on Royal Navy aircraft carriers. It was introduced in 1959 as a replacement for the outdated Douglas Skyraider and was intended to be a temporary solution until a new, specifically designed AEW aircraft could be developed for use on the planned CVA-01 carriers. However, neither the CVA-01 carriers nor the new AEW aircraft were ultimately built, and the AEW.3 continued to be used until 1978, when the last carrier capable of operating it was retired.  Made from Mahogany/ 18"
