Cessna 172 Skyhawk Model

Cessna® 172 Skyhawk Model

The Cessna Aircraft Company's Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a single-engine, high-wing, four-seat fixed-wing aircraft with an American origin. It first took flight in 1955 and has since been the most widely produced aircraft with over 44,000 units built The Skyhawk was derived from the Cessna 170 of 1948, but with a tricycle landing gear rather than a conventional one. Originally, the Skyhawk name was reserved for a trim package, but it was later applied to all standard-production 172 aircraft. Some enhanced versions of the plane were marketed as the Cutlass. When measured by its immense popularity and longevity, the Cessna 172 stands as the most successful aircraft in history. The company's first production model was delivered in 1956, and the aircraft continues to be manufactured to this day. The Skyhawk has primarily competed against other general aviation airplanes like the Beechcraft Musketeer and Grumman AA-5 series (both no longer in production), the Piper Cherokee,[6] and, more recently, the Diamond DA40 and Cirrus SR20.
