The USS San Diego (CL-53) was an Atlanta-class light cruiser in the United States Navy that was commissioned shortly after the United States entered World War II. It played a prominent role in the Pacific theater, and was equipped with 16 5-inch guns and 16 Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft guns, giving it a powerful anti-aircraft broadside.

The USS San Diego was one of the most highly decorated ships in the US Navy during World War II, earning a total of 18 battle stars. It also had the distinction of being the first major Allied warship to enter Tokyo Bay after Japan surrendered.

After the war, the USS San Diego was decommissioned in 1946 and was later sold for scrapping in December 1960.
