060219-N-4374S-003 – (February 19, 2006) – The amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) performs a replenishment at sea (RAS) with the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship RFA Bayleaf (A 109). Carter Hall is currently on a regularly scheduled deployment conducting maritime security operations (MSO). MSO sets the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO also deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.

The USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) is a Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship of the United States Navy. It was named after Carter Hall, an estate near Winchester, Virginia, built in the 1790s. The ship was laid down on November 11, 1991, launched on October 2, 1993, and commissioned on September 30, 1995.

The primary mission of the LSD-50 is to transport and launch amphibious craft, vehicles, crews, and embarked personnel in an amphibious assault. It can also provide limited docking and repair services to small ships and craft.
