History:- Construction began on May 10, 1999, at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi
- Launched on June 21, 2000
- Commissioned on December 8, 2001, at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City
- Named after Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient
