AL ASAD, Iraq An AH-1 Cobra, with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167, lands at Al Asad Air Base Aug. 6 following training with 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company. The live fire training exercise helped maintain job proficiency of both the pilots and the Marines on the ground calling for fire. The squadron conducted both day and night training. Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167 (HMLA-167) is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron consisting of Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and UH-1Y Venom utility helicopters. Known as the “Warriors”, they are based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina and fall under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 29 (MAG-29) and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW).Mission
Support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force commander by providing offensive air support, utility support, armed escort and airborne supporting arms coordination, day or night under all weather conditions during expeditionary, joint or combined operations.
