The 95th was a unit of the United States Air Force based at Tyndall Air Force Base. It was equipped with F-22 Raptor aircraft and was responsible for advanced fighter training for the F-15 Eagle until 2010. The squadron has a long and distinguished history, dating back to its activation in 1942 during World War II. It saw combat in the European Theater of Operations and the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, flying fighter escort and air defense missions. The 95th Fighter Squadron was awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations for its actions during the war, and its pilots achieved a total of 199 air-to-air kills and seven aces. After the war, the squadron was inactivated but was later reactivated for various roles including air defense.
