61st Troop Carrier Squadron C-130E (1966) Model
Made in honor of SMSGT Elroy Harworth, USAF (KIA) on 31 May 1966 while part of the 61st Troop Carrier Squadron
Lost during a mission against the Thanh Hoa bridge on the Song Ma River, North Vietnam. The Carolina Moon operation attempted to drop a large 8-foot diameter bomb with 5000 pounds of explosives to knock out the bridge. Exact reason of loss is truly not known, but all eight crew were killed in action

Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War, the squadron transported supplies from the Philippines into Southeast Asia, Dec 1965-Jun 1966. Part of squadron deployed to South Vietnam in the summer of 1972 to test the Adverse Weather Aerial Delivery System (AWADS) in combat for the first time. In 1972, operated from Taiwan and provided flood relief in the Philippines.
